History
The activity of collecting and donating pacemakers started in France, in Nancy, in 1974, with the encouragement of Bernard DODINOT within the framework of Stimubanque association, with the efficient help of a patient, now deceased, René PETIT. Every year, 200 up to 300 devices have been forwarded for 40 years to cardiology centers where they are implanted to underprivileged patients.
Humanitarian missions started in 1966 with the encouragement of Xavier Jouven, within the framework of STIM développement association. For twenty years, over 60 missions in about twenty countries have made it possible for 500 underprivileged patients to be gratuitously implanted.
Stimubanque joined STIM développement in 2007, and therefore merged into one association, thus gathering forces, means and partnership possibilities. Hence, 2016 proved to be a milestone for both associations: Stimubanque celebrated its 40th anniversary and STIM développement celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Moreover, in 2012 Xavier Jouven founded « Cardiologie et Développement », a larger NGO with a medical and scientific vocation which carries out actions for healthcare, teaching and research programs on cardiovascular diseases, both in the fields of cardiac rhythm management (CRM) and forgotten diseases in developed countries: cardiologie-et-developpement.org
